KOCHI: The city on Monday witnessed a mass but peaceful agitation in front of the Kerala High Court organised by CPM against the verdict on its leader M V Jayarajan. The functioning of the High Court was not disrupted with the protest. The CPM march was stopped by the police ahead of the court gate.  The police had made tight security arrangements in and around the court. Cops from the neighbouring districts of Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki were part of the police bandobast. The judges, advocates, employees and others entered the court through the third and the fourth main gates. The checking at the court gate was intensified and only those with proper identity card were allowed to enter the court premises.“More than 1000 police men were deployed in the court premises to ensure the smooth functioning of the court. Additional traffic police were also deployed to avoid any kind of traffic snarl. The vehicles of the party activists were parked on the Vallarpadam- Pachalam road. Ten executive magistrates, fire force and ambulance services were present at the venue,  a police officer said. The party activists from four districts reached the court premises by 8 am. The police and DYFI activists ensured a hassle-free traffic in the area. The party leaders were seated in a pandhal erected on the Banarejee Road. More than 15000 protesters participated in the sit-in. They raised placards against the court verdict. The silent agitation ended at 2 pm.
