New Delhi: The controversy over the book 300 Ramayanas continues in Delhi University, as on Thursday students affiliated to the ABVP took out a procession and raised slogans outside the Vice Chancellor's office.
Delhi University is reportedly considering the removal of an offending chapter from its history second year syllabus.
Three of the 12 accused who vandalised the history department — Vinod Dhaiya, Rakesh Kumar and Manvender, were arrested late Monday night and on Tuesday a city court sent them to judicial custody till March 11. The Magistrate had refused to grant the accused bail and and has asked them to introspect.
Rejecting the bail plea, the court said that there could be no justification for attacking the professor and for causing damage to the property of the university.
The police told the court that the accused allegedly resorted to rioting in the history department in the campus during protests over "objectionable texts" with reference to Sita, Laxman and Hanuman in their syllabus.
The vandalism allegedly caused a loss of Rs 50,000 along with damage to other electronic items.
All the three are booked under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with deadly weapons), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of his duties), 452 (house trespass) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
