EZHIMALA (Kannur): The second edition of ‘Admiral’s Cup’, an International Sailing Regatta for trainees of Naval Academies of friendly foreign countries, will be held at the Indian Naval Academy from December 9 to 12. The inaugural Admirals Cup Regatta held in December 2010 at the INA was a big success with a total of 12 teams participating in it.As many as nine foreign countries participated in the regatta. The Indian Navy instituted the Admiral’s Cup a ‘fleet race’ in laser class of sail boats, a single crew Olympic class boat. Naval Academies of friendly foreign countries across the world have been invited to send their trainee-naval officers to participate in the event. This year 12 countries have already confirmed their participation, which includes countries like Brazil, Italy, Mauritius and Sri Lanka. The number of participating countries is expected to go up to 15 by the time of commencement of the event, according to the Naval authorities here. The International Sailing regatta is being conducted in the Laser Radial class of sail boats, in which only one single person acts as the helmsman and sail trimmer. The races will be conducted at Ettikulam Bay at INA, Ezhimala. A total of eight races are scheduled in the men and women categories to be run over threedays. Two boats per country will comprise the team and they would compete for the prestigious ‘Admiral’s Cup’ trophy, which would be awarded to the best team based on their combined performance. In addition to this, individual medals will also be awarded in the men and women categories.The opening ceremony of the event is scheduled on the evening of December 9 and the following three days will be race days. The closing ceremony is scheduled to be held on December 12.
