Jaipur: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court on Wednesday has awarded life imprisonment to two convicts in the 2007 Ajmer Sharif Dargah bomb blast case.
The magistrate also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Patel and 5,000 on Gupta. The court has directed NIA to present a final report on three accused, who are still absconding, in the case by March 28.
The special NIA court earlier on March 8 convicted three people in connection with the Ajmer dargah blast case, while acquitting seven others, including RSS worker Swami Aseemanand. Those convicted were Sunil Joshi, who has figured in other cases, Devendra Gupta and Bhavesh Patel. Of these, Joshi died soon after the blast.
Three people were killed and at least 15 others injured when a bomb exploded on October 11, 2007 inside the premises of the shrine of Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti.
The case was handed over to the ATS Rajasthan and was later transferred to NIA which re-registered the case with the NIA police station in New Delhi on April 6, 2011.
There were as many as 149 witnesses in the case and 451 documents were examined and the NIA filed three supplementary charge sheets in the case.
