Mumbai: Noted director-producer Mahesh Bhatt, whose younger daughter Alia is making her acting debut with Karan Johar's 'Student of the Year', says not launching her was not a conscious decision. "Alia is lucky to get a break with Karan Johar. He is an A-grade filmmaker who has a passion and platform and makes the kind of movies that the masses like," Bhatt told PTI.
"She is a young girl, just 18 years old and out of school, and that's the right kind of vehicle for her. She didn't have to work towards it, it just happened," he mentioned.
On whether it was a deliberate decision not to launch his own son and daughter, Bhatt said, "No, it is not like that. There is no strategy or plan behind this."
"The doors aren't shut on Sunny (Rahul Bhatt). It is just that he is too fussy. He was offered 'Kalyug' and he said no to it. He was also offered a film by Pooja, he said no to that as well," he said.
"There is no need to obsessively weave a film only for him. I don't owe him a break. If he gets a break outside, so be it," he added.
Rahul, an aspiring actor, was in news in 2009 following revelations that David Headley, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, had befriended him.
Meanwhile, 'Student Of The Year', a romantic-comedy directed by Karan Johar, marks the debut of Alia along with director David Dhawan's younger son Varun Dhawan and newcomer Siddharth Malhotra.
Bhatt's Vishesh Films has launched several actors including John Abraham ('Jism'), Kunal Khemu ('Kalyug'), Rahul Roy ('Aashiqui'), Sonal Chauhan ('Jannat'), Esha Gupta ('Jannat 2') and Sunny Leone ('Jism 2').
