The patient, who tried to kill the doctor, had himself been in a government job as a medical officer in Uttar Pradesh.

Ghaziabad: Angered over maltreatment, a "mentally instable" patient who is a doctor himself attempted to kill his medical consultant in Ghaziabad on Thursday, police said. The incident occurred in Narendra Mohan Hospital under the Sahibabad police station.

"Dr Kiran Pal, who had been in government job as a medical officer in Uttar Pradesh, had been suffering from mental instability. In September last year, he suffered from malaria and remained under the treatment of Dr Sanjay Gupta," said Superintendent of Police (SP) Shiv Shankar Yadav.

"Dr Sanjay Gupta administered Neurotoxin during treatment, which is very harmful. I decided to kill him today," said Dr Kiran Pal, who confessed his crime after the incident.

"After his attempt to kill the doctor remained futile, he reloaded the pistol and fired two shots from the chamber where he was confined after the incident, which broke the glass panes of the chamber," the official added.

"He has been arrested and a criminal case has been registered against him. The investigation has been initiated to find out from where he acquired unlicensed pistol," the police official said.
