The Maha Deeskha has been proposed by YSR Congress honorary president YS Vijayalakshmi for the cause of weavers.

Karimnagar: The Maha Deeskha proposed by YSR Congress honorary president YS Vijayalakshmi for the cause of weavers on July 23 in Sircilla seems to have heated up the district politics with the leaders trading war of words with each other. Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao at separate meetings here on Sunday termed the deeksha a vain bid to boost the sagging image of the YSR Congress party, while YSRC district president Putta Madhu and district in-charge minister of Medak and Nizamabad, Adi Srinivas condemned the remarks.

Ponnam Prabhakar said that Vijayamma has no knowledge about the weavers and her proposed deeksha might again abet them to commit suicide, the figures of which have come down in the recent past. ‘’We would respect her if she arrives here as the wife of former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy and not as YSRC honorary president," he said.

Meanwhile, Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao alleged that around 250 weavers committed suicide during YSR’s regime between 2004 and 2009 and attributed the reason to the policies and programmes of the YSR government. In such a case, Vijayamma’s deeksha is only an attempt to salvage the party. On other hand, TJAC chairman Prof. M Kodnadaram called upon the people in the region to disrupt Vijayamma’s deekshas.

Reacting to these statements, Putta Madhu and Adi Srinivas jeered at Ponnam Prabhakar stating that he is what he is today only because of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy and flayed KTR for batting for weavers even without knowledge of their problems. Later, the YSRC leaders met Karimangar SP to seek permission for orgnaising the maha deeksha.

It may be mentioned here that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy supported the cause of united Andhra Pradesh in the Parliament, drawing flak from the people and leaders of Telangana. In this backdrop, Vijaymma’s deeksha in Telangana is raising many eyebrows as to how she would garner the support of the people of the region.
