At New Mangalore Port, Last Cruise Ship Of The Season Receives Grand Welcome
The Riviera, carrying 1,141 passengers and 752 crew members, arrived at the port at 8:30 am on Tuesday.

The 9th and last international cruise ship of this season, Riviera Cruise Ship, has arrived at Panambur Mangalore port in Mangalore. This foreign vessel has recorded the highest number of passengers since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Riviera, carrying 1,141 passengers and 752 crew members, arrived at the port at 8:30 am on Tuesday. The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel docked alongside berth No 4 in the port. It hosted the highest number of passengers among the ships to have called at the port in the past two years since the onset of the pandemic.

Prior to its arrival at New Mangalore Port, it had made a stop at Cochin Port. Following its departure from New Mangalore, the ship is scheduled to sail to Mormugao Port, as stated in a release from the New Mangalore Port Authority.The cruise season for 2023-24 commenced with the arrival of the first ship, MS Europa 2, on November 28, last year. The vessel, sailing under the flag of Malta (Europe), carried 271 passengers and 373 crew members.

The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) took extensive measures to prepare for the influx of visitors. Tourists had the opportunity to explore various attractions, including the Karkala Gomateshwara Basadi, the 1000 Pillar Basadi at Moodbidri, Soans Farm, the Achal Cashew Factory, the Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, St Aloysius Chapel, the local market, and traditional homes in Mangalore. As a token of remembrance of their visit to Mangalore, souvenirs were presented to the cruise passengers as they embarked back onto the ship.

The guests received a warm welcome accompanied by the melodious tunes of Mangalore’s brass band and performances by Yakshagana artists. Various arrangements were also made for cruise passengers including customs counters for medical check-up and expedited transit and buses and special taxis for transportation. WiFi service was also provided.
