HYDERABAD: The anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition, observed as a Black Day by one section and Vijay Diwas by another, passed off peacefully in the city on Tuesday under tight security cover. The Muharram procession also passed off peacefully giving a sigh of relief to the police.
Though organisations like the Bajrang Dal and the Darsgah JihadoShahadat (DJS) planned to take out processions and protests, the police prevented them from doing so.Both organisations planned a rally and a public meeting at Indira Park but police denied them permission.
A tight security blanket was thrown around the city to prevent any trouble. Additional paramilitary forces along with Rapid Action Force were deployed in sensitive areas.Earlier, DJS president Abdul Majid, who spoke to reporters at the party's head office at Moghulpura, demanded construction of Babri Masjid at the disputed place. Some DJS activists were picked up and shifted from the area but soon another group reached the place and burnt the effigy of the government for the delay in reconstruction of Babri Masjid. Nearly 25 DJS activists who were taken into custody were later let off."With the police preventing us from going to Indira Park, we wanted to go to the nearby temple, which was demolished a few years back by the municipal authorities, to offer prayers and take an oath for constructing Lord Ram temple at the disputed site. After nearly three hours of '`custody', the police allowed us to go to the temple," Bajrang Dal city convenor Bharath Vamsee said. They wanted legal steps to be taken to punish the demolishers of Babri Masjid, identified and indicted by Justice Liberhan Commission.
