On Rakhi Purnami, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) announced that a baby born on an RTC bus from the Gadwal depot will receive a lifetime free bus pass for travel across the state. This initiative aligns with the management’s previous decision to offer lifetime free passes to children born on RTC buses or at bus stations. The baby girl will be granted this pass as a birthday gift. Additionally, nurse Alivelu Mangamma, who assisted with the delivery of a pregnant woman at the Wanaparthy Government Hospital, will receive a one-year free pass for deluxe and super-luxury services.
The conductor Bharathi and driver Anjali from the Gadwal depot, who helped a woman in labour during the bus journey, were honoured by the TGSRTC management at the Hyderabad Bus Bhavan. The MD, VC Sajjannar, along with other senior officials, recognised their efforts with cash rewards and a ceremonial accolade. They also presented the free bus passes to Alivelu Mangamma and the baby’s pass to Gadwal depot manager Murali Krishna.
On the morning of the festive occasion of Rakshabandhan, Sandhya, a pregnant woman traveling from Gadwal to Vanaparthi to celebrate Rakhi with her brothers, went into sudden labour on the bus as it neared Nachahalli. The female conductor, G Bharathi, promptly stopped the bus. With assistance from nurse Alivelu Mangamma, the delivery was successfully managed, resulting in a healthy baby girl. Both mother and baby were then taken to a local hospital with emergency support.
MD VC Sajjannar praised the timely and compassionate actions of conductor Bharathi, nurse Alivelu Mangamma, and driver Anjali, highlighting the RTC staff’s dedication to providing safety and reassuring travel during emergencies. The event where the lifetime pass was given to the baby was attended by the company’s CVO Dr Ravinder, Executive Directors Munishekar and Krishna Kant, Chief Traffic Manager Sridevi, and Deputy CT.M Jyothi.
