Normal life is likely to be paralysed on Thursday as the opposition parties- TDP, BJP, CPM, CPI and TRS - will enforce “Bharat Bandh” to protest against the steep hike diesel price and restrictions in supply of domestic gas refills. The bandh is also against allowing FDI in retail sector.
Osmania University cancelled all the examinations scheduled to be held on Thursday.
“All the examinations, including PhD admission interviews on Thursday, have been postponed. The revised dates will be announced later,” the OU registrar said in a release. In Warangal, the registrar of Kakatiya University too announced postponement of Thursday’s examinations.
Schools will remain closed across the state as the agitators are likely to obstruct vehicular movements. In addition, there will be no auto-rickshaw services. The Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee joint convenor J Rawindarr appealed to the auto drivers in Hyderabad and all other Telangana districts to participate in the bandh. Truckers have already announced a 24-hour strike.
Leaders of Left parties and TDP held a meeting in the city on Wednesday and chalked out an action plan. However, they averred that no inconvenience would be caused to the public.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters in the city that the UPA government had no right to continue in power for its anti-people decisions.
The Bandh will be observed by TDP, TRS and BJP separately, the Left parties working with TDP. TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao demanded roll back of the prices of petroleum products and continuation of subsidised gas refills to domestic consumers.
