Kolkata: The Indian Football Association (IFA) on Wednesday suspended national football team skipper Baichung Bhutia for the remaining three matches of the Kolkata Premier League and slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 for dissent during an East Bengal-Mohun Bagan match.

The IFA, the governing body for the sport in West Bengal, unanimously slapped the suspension and fine on Bhutia.

The IFA said if Bhutia did not pay the monetary penalty he would have to miss the first two matches of next year's Kolkarta Premier League.

Bhutia is playing against Japan in Bangalore.

Bhutia was red-carded during the last East Bengal-Mohun Bagan tie and he was seen pushing the referee. He refused to leave the technical area.

Mohun Bagan football secretary Debashis Dutta and physio Robson also prevented the officials from removing Bhutia.

As a result they have been barred from the technical area for one match of the Kolkata Premier League and cautioned for their behaviour.

At the same time East Bengal has been cautioned for arriving late for the derby tie.

The Calcutta Referee Association has been asked to explain why the referee continued with the match after Bhutia refused to move out of the technical area.
