Birbhum gangrape case: Forensics team submits report to police
A five-member Special Investigation Team headed by the DSP (Headquarters) of the district will now probe the case.

Kolkata: The West Bengal forensics team on Tuesday submitted its primary observation report in the Birbhum gangrape case to the district police. The details of the report are not known.

On Monday, the police recovered a mobile phone recording of the khap panchayat which ordered the gangrape of the 20-year-old as punishment for falling in love with a man from a different community.

A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by the DSP (Headquarters) of the district will now probe the case, after the first investigation officer was removed following goof-ups in initial investigations.

The survivor's lover and his brother, meanwhile, were traced to Jharkhand after they went missing and have now been kept under house arrest in Labhpur in Birbhum. Police feel the duo could become important witnesses in the case.

The 20-year-old woman was gangraped by 12 men on the orders of the panchayat.
