BJP state president G Kishan Reddy wanted the state government to allocate Rs 120 crore for the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital in Warangal to improve facilities and provide better medical care to the patients from north Telangana districts and Chhattisgarh.
In a letter to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the BJP leader said that for the last 15 years, the government had neglected the cardiology ward at the hospital and that it resulted in the death of about 170 patients.
Dr Parabhakarachary, who worked as a cardiologist in the hospital, had submitted a report stating that there was a requirement of Rs 120 crore for improving facilities in the hospital but the government had not acted on the recommendation, he reminded.
The BJP leader said patients were being forced to go to Hyderabad due to lack of facilities in MGM hospital.
"I do not understand why the government shows so much interest in private hospitals but does not bother about its own hospitals which cater to the requirement of the poor," he said.
BJP state president Kishan Reddy has urged chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy to take steps to strengthen the cardiology department by appointing a senior cardiologist in MGM.
He also urged that government to fill all vacant posts in the MGM hospital.
