BJP seeks CBI probe into Bengal nun rape case
"Banerjee has no answer for the delay in arrest and offering real-time solutions. Therefore, BJP demands a CBI enquiry," said BJP national secretary.

New Delhi: BJP on Tuesday demanded a CBI probe into the rape of a 71-year-old nun in West Bengal and said that the Mamata Banerjee government cannot hide its "guilt" of being unable yet to arrest any of the accused by blaming the matter on the saffron outfit and giving a communal angle to the incident.

"Banerjee has no answer for the delay in arrest and offering real-time solutions. Therefore, BJP demands a CBI enquiry," said BJP national secretary Siddharth Nath Singh. He said that the ruling TMC in Bengal cannot hide blame the matter on BJP in a bid to obfuscate their responsibility.

"It's time that Banerjee and her government are made accountable for all the ills they have inflicted on the people of Bengal. BJP will make this a mass movement beginning tomorrow by the women wing of BJP West Bengal marching towards Nabanna (Bengal secretariat) in large numbers," he said.

He said that the incident, which took place three days back in Ranaghat of West Bengal, has sent shockwaves through the country and was highly condemnable. The guilty need to be caught and the job of the police has become much easier due to the availability of CCTV footage, he said while ruing that the perpetrators of the crime were still moving freely.

"The job of the TMC government is to arrest the accused and not politicise the matter. Unfortunately, TMC minister Bobby Hakim on the very first day of the crime blamed the entire incident on (RSS's) Ghar Wapsi.

"That just goes to show that the TMC government wants to hide its inefficiency by bringing in a communal angle, that is highly deplorable," he said. Singh, who is BJP's in-charge of Bengal affairs, further asked, "Can anyone hearing of the sequence of events blame it on religious grounds and create a controversy?"

The Bengal chief minister visited Ranaghat on Monday but was hooted and gheraoed by students and locals who were angry that despite the CCTV footage, the accused were still to be arrested.

He said it was unfortunate that the chief minister, instead of placating the irate people, accused BJP for the protest and reportedly told one of the protesting students that she would slap her.
