A Block Education Officer (BEO) was arrested on Thursday from his residence in Hilsa town of Bihar's Nalanda district for taking Rs 8,000 from a teacher, official sources said.
Acting on a tip off, a vigilance team laid a trap and arrested Virendra Prasad from his residence as soon as he accepted the graft from a teacher Balwant Kumar, the sources said.
Kumar, a teacher posted in a primary school in Ekangarsarai village, had lodged a written complaint with the vigilance bureau that Prasad, a BEO posted at Tharthari block, was demanding Rs 10,000 bribe from him on the pretext of inspection of the school, they said.
The tainted BEO was being brought to the state capital for questioning before his production before the designated judge (vigilance) for obtaining judicial remand, the sources added.
