BANGALORE: Although police have cited security reasons for not permitting Metro ride after 11 pm on December 31, the BMRCL  officials are confident of handling the rush and have decided to go ahead with the extension till 2 am. T Sunil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) has written a letter to the BMRCL not to run the Metro till 2 am on New Year’s Eve. He suggested that the authorities can run the special trips on January 2 and 3.“We will double the number of security guards at MG Road, Indiranagar as well as Byappanahalli stations, where we expect the crowd to be more,” said a spokesperson of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), adding that the security guards are well trained to handle any number of commuters at Metro stations. When asked if the current security arrangement in the Metro stations is sufficient to maintain law & order, N Sivasailam, MD, BMRCL, said he that entry in Metro is reserved for those in decent behaviour.
