Boiling oil test for womans fidelity

KHAMMAM: In a shocking incident, a woman was asked to prove her fidelity by soaking her hands in boiling oil at Adavimaddulapalem of Kamepally mandal on Friday.According to information, Sayamma (35) who had got married to Ramaiah (37) seven years ago, was asked to put her hands in boiling oil by caste elders in the wake of complaint made by her husband Ramaiah, who suspected her fidelity.Ramaiah had asked for divorce from Sayamma suspecting she had an affair with a man.Following this caste elders decided to conduct the ‘purity test’.Sayamma, whose hands got blisters, reportedly said she had proved her purity, as she was not hurt by the oil.The caste elders also claimed that it was a common practice in their caste.
