New Delhi: Rana Daggubati's film career is hardly 20 months old but his meteoric rise reminds the audiences about Abhishek Bachchan who had also shot to fame after his first release 'Refugee'.
Daggubati has three releases till date in the form of 'Leader', 'Dum Maro Dum' and 'Nenu Naa Rakshasi'. 'Leader' was an instant success while his first Bollywood film 'Dum Maro Dum' did not do well at the box office but his face received recognition. Incidentally, Abhishek Bachchan was playing the main lead in the film.
Junior Bachchan is in the Hindi film industry since a decade and has given more than 50 films. 'Run', 'Yuva', 'Sarkar', 'Dus', 'Dhoom' and 'Guru' have helped him in achieving a stage where Bachchan can get some more films without putting any extra effort.
Daggubati's father D Suresh Babu is one of the key men in the Telugu film industry. Big stars of Telugu film industry like Venkatesh and Nagarjuna are his close relatives. His family background came into assistance when Rana decided to become an actor. Initially Abhishek was also launched as Big B's son.
Rana won the prestigious Filmfare award for his first film 'Leader', a feat that Abhishek had almost achieved with 'Refugee'. Junior Bachchan was nominated for Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for the year 2000.
Both the actors seem to have mutual admiration also. If media reports are to be believed then Abhishek Bachchan has recommended Rana's name to Ram Gopal Varma for the movie 'Department'.
Varma must have seen some similarites in acting styles of both the actors because apparently the role was written with Abhishek in view.
Rana Daggubati is following Abhishek's footstep in one more way. Rana remains in the news more for his off screen affairs than on screen performances. Though Abhishek's image is of a complete family man and he doesn't do anything unusual to shatter this image but newspapers were abuzz with the news of his affair with Karisma Kapoor in the beginning of his career.
Both the actors look promising at this stage. Abhishek's 'Players' and 'Bol Bachchan' are expected to hit screens this year while Rana will be seen in 'Department' and 'Naa Ishtam'.
The similarity of mannerism will be confirmed after some more films but at this time, Rana Daggubati looks closer to Abhishek Bachchan than any other Bollywood actor.
