Los Angeles: Rumors swirled on Tuesday that pop star Britney Spears had given birth to her second baby and that contrary to tabloid predictions, it was a boy.
The 24-year-old celebrity singer was reported by several tabloid outlets to have had the baby at a Los Angeles-area hospital early on Tuesday morning.
But details were scarce and Spears and her representatives were keeping mum.
Access Hollywood said it had confirmed the birth with her father Jamie, who said he had already seen his grandchild, adding, "Everything is great."
US Weekly, citing a family source, said the child was a boy.
Life&Style magazine said father Kevin Federline sent a text message to a family insider saying, "Break out the cigars! We got a baby boy in the house!"
Britney’s spokeswoman Sonia Muckle of Jive Records said she had nothing to report.
If the reports prove correct, the baby was born just two days short of the birthday of Britney and Federline's first son’s birthday.
Sean Preston turns one year old on September 14. The former teen idol, who posed nude for Harper's Bazaar magazine when she was six months pregnant, had led celebrity magazines to believe she was expecting a girl.
Some reports in the past week had even said she planned to name the child Jamilyn after her younger sister Jamie and her mother Lynne. Spears and Federline married in September 2004.
