CBI to bring corporate practices in performance appraisal
The agency has signed a MoU with IIM Bangalore in which one of the aspects is to understand and suggest changes in the performance appraisal system of CBI which at present is driven by statistics.

New Delhi: CBI may become the first police organisation to adopt modern performance appraisal system which is being designed for its personnel in consultation with experts from IIM-Bangalore on the lines of corporate sector bringing in rewards and incentives.

The agency on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIM, Bangalore in which one of the aspects is to understand and suggest changes in the performance appraisal system of CBI which at present is driven by statistics. "For instance, one of the issues we need to examine is to redefine the existing ways of measuring our work output. Whether one RC (regular case) or PE (preliminary enquiry) should constitute one unit of work," Joint Director RS Bhatti said at the time of signing of the MoU.

As of now, a major parameter to the appraisal of CBI officers is based on number of cases successfully investigated and disposed by them.

The agency will use the relationship with the premier management institute to bring host of changes including the introduction of Management Information System which would help senior officers placed across the country to monitor the work being done by subordinates in distant locations.

Although the work was going on for the last six years but it was the push of present Director Ranjit Sinha and former Special Director Saleem Ali which saw the formal signing of MoU between two eminent organisations.

"The objectives are wide in scope and broad in range to cover all aspects of the working of CBI, right from human resource management to performance management, which are top priority areas for the CBI," Sinha said in his speech.
