Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government on Friday recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the disappearance of Swami Shankar Dev, founder of yoga guru Ramdev's Divya Yog Mandir Trust.
A notification to this effect was issued after the investigation into the Swami's disappearance by the state police did not yield any clue, Principal Secretary (Home) Vinita Kumar said.
The state police began investigating the case on the basis of an FIR lodged by Ramdev's close aide Acharya Balkrishna at Kankhal police station, Haridwar which said that the Swami had gone missing on July 14, 2007, she said.
Prolonged interrogations of locals and people associated with Ashrams were carried out by the state police but no definite conclusions could be drawn, the official said. Subsequently, a closure report was filed in the case by the state police on April 10, 2012.
Ramdev is already under the scanner for alleged regulatory violations in labelling of some of the products of the Divya Yog Mandir Trust.
