BELLARY Enthused at his electoral victory, supporters of independent candidate B Sreeramulu bathed him with milk and showered loads of flowers on him, during his "victory celebrations", in Bellary on Sunday. The procession started from the counting centre to his residence ‘Pariajata’ at Avembavi near here, was accompanied by thousands of his supporters. Supporters burst crackers, sweets were distributed, besides loud music accompanied the prcoession as it snaked its way through Cowl Bazaar, Royal Circle and Double Road. En-route, the victorious candidate paid his obeisances at Shri Kanaka Durgamma temple. 2,400 kg of flowers were used in the procession; his fans offered him a cake weighing 24 kg.Bellary Deputy Mayor Shashikala, too, joined in the celebrations. Meanwhile, Sriramulu’s sister, MP J Shanta, asserted that by winning the Bellary byelection, her brother has become a national political leader. Addressing the media after the announcement of the bypoll verdict here on Sunday, the MP pointed out that his victory was achieved despite many political big-wigs campaigning against him. “Nobody could change the result, which went ultimately in our favour,” she said.
