NEW DELHI The Union government on Monday invited Water Resources officials from Tamil Nadu and Kerala for discussions on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue. The Union Water Resources Ministry sent out letters to the secretaries of Water Resources departments of both states, inviting them for a meeting on the issue either on December 15 or 16. “What the Union secretary told me was that TN had conveyed its willingness to attend. It is wrong to say that Tamil Nadu boycotted the meeting convened by the Centre,’’ K Jayakumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Kerala government, told Express. However, there was no official word from the TN government’s side. The TN Government issued a press release last week stating that it had decided not to participate in the “informal discussion” on the issue. But, Jayakumar, claimed that TN could not attend the meeting due to some ‘inconvenience’.
