BHUBANESWAR: Vishwa Hindu Parishad international general secretary Pravin Togadia on Wednesday demanded immediate withdrawal of the newly created National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) which is to become operational on March 1 under Intelligence Bureau (IB).“The VHP is opposed to NCTC as it would infringe upon the rights of the states and destabilise the federal structure,” Togadia told mediapersons here.“If the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government was so sincere about fighting terror, why it removed Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), conferred ‘most favoured nation’ status to Pakistan and contemplated lifting of the Armed Forces Special Power Act in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.  Lack of seriousness on the part of the Centre to fight terrorism is reflected in its inability to award capital punishment to Afzal Guru and Kasab, he said. Instead, NCTC is a ploy to divert attention of the people from various corruption cases plaguing the Centre. The VHP will also oppose religion-based reservation, he said adding that it goes against the Constitution. Togadia who is on a two-day visit to the State said VHP would launch a nationwide campaign, Hindu Roti and Sikhya Bachao, starting from Somnath in Gujarat from February 27.
