BANGALORE: After weeks of speculation, the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2011 engineering counselling kickstarted on Thursday. Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya said that the total number of engineering seats in the state is 83,489, while 47,697 seats will be offered under the government quota. However, 73,168 students have been alloted engineering ranks.
He also added that 6,591 candidates, who have scored 45 per cent were eligible for the counselling under the general merit category and OBC cateogry students who have scored 40 per cent were eligible.The total number of colleges offering engineering seats are 188, and this includes 6 new colleges this year in the state. For the first time, 4,231 are eligible for the supernumerary quota, whose parents' annual income is below Rs 2.5 lakh.
