KOLLAM: CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan, in reply to the discussion over the political-organisational report in the state conference, called for better unity within the party. He urged the leaders to dissuade from making any public statements that may send out a wrong message about the party unity.Party secretary’s reply came at a time when K E Ismail, who had to face the ire of many of the delegates for his statement against Chandrappan’s criticism of the CPM, tendered an apology in front of the steering committee here on Friday.Chandrappan also said that controversy over Ismail’s statement should be put to rest and the leaders should work in tandem to strengthen the party in the state.He also pointed out that those who are spearheading the campaign against CPI, that there exists a rift within the party would have to face disappointment.Criticising the UDF Government for anti-people policies, Chandrappan said that CPI should be ready to actively participate along with people against the anti-people policies of the UDF Government. He said that in the coming days the party should become a major force to reckon with and CPI should uphold its individual character along with the communist values.Later, briefing media persons, Binoy Viswam said that the party decided to intervene more frequently on the socio-political issues of minorities and work for the upliftment of the downtrodden within the group.He said that deputy general secretary Sudhakara Reddy, who addressed the state conference on Friday, called to strengthen the ideological, political and party base.Chandrappan May be Reelected State SecKollam: As the curtains come down on the five-day CPI state conference on Saturday, state secretary C K Chandrappan, with whom the party delegates stood for his tough stand against the CPM, is likely to be reelected to the post.
