KOLLAM: As the curtains come down on the five-day CPI state conference on Saturday, state secretary C K Chandrappan, with whom the party delegates stood for his tough stand against the CPM, is likely to be reelected to the post. The sentiments of the delegates from most of the districts during the past few days were more or less in favour of Chandrappan with even party central leadership supporting the state secretary.Chandrappan’s outburst on the eve of the state conference against the Left partner added his strength in the party as majority of delegates backed him for the tough stand against the CPM’s big brother attitude.The delegate conference will conclude on Saturday. The report will be passed on the day. The party secretary, the 89-member state council and the 7-member control commission will be elected in the conference. There would be at least 17 new members in the state council. Apart from this, 110 delegates will be selected for the party congress to be held in Patna from March 27 to 31.The red volunteers march and rally will be held at 2 30 p.m. The rally would culminate at the P A Solomon Nagar at Cantonment Maidan by 5 30 p.m. The public function scheduled at 6 30 p.m. will mark the concluding of the conference. Party general secretary A B Bardhan, deputy general secretary Sudhakara Reddy and C K Chandrappan will be among other leaders to take part in the function.
