CHENNAI: In a storming operation carried out on Saturday, The police have arrested 364 persons in different parts of the city.The arrested include 50 rowdies, old offenders and absconders. During the routine vehicular checks, 74 persons were charged with drunken driving. The raids conducted in lodges and guest houses came in the wake of the approaching Independence Day. The rehearsal for the celebrations will be held on August 9 and 11, for which the security has been stepped up in public places like railway stations, and the CMBT, sources said.Woman Robbed A 40-year-old woman was robbed of her gold chain at knife-point at her house in Thyagaraya Nagar on Saturday. According to sources, Rama of Jagadeesan Nagar was sleeping on the terrace of her house, when an intruder tried to snatch her 6.5 sovereign gold chain from her neck. She woke up and tried to scream. but the thief brandished a knife and threatened her to hand over her chain. When she refused, he scratched her hand with the knife and fled with the gold chain. Mambalam police have registered a case.Jewellery StolenBurglars set fire to the steel almirah on Saturday, before decamping with 12 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a house in T P Chatram. Ramesh, who ran a mobile laundry shop, usually locked the house at night and slept with his family in a nearby building. On Sunday, his house owner noticed smoke from Ramesh’s house and alerted him. Entering inside he found the almirah open and jewels missing. Police are investigating.
