Chennai: Three days after a 17-year-old boy was allegedly picked up and beaten by a policeman and three others in a case of mistaken identity, the police constable has been suspended in Chennai.
The teenager was allegedly dragged out of his house late on Friday night by four men who suspected him to be a mobile phone thief. When they realised they had the held wrong person, they allegedly assaulted him to check if he had any other information.
The family of the boy claim that their son was blindfolded and left at a railway station with Rs 10 rupees left with him. His family also said that when he returned home, he was badly injured, was bleeding and was unable to speak or eat.
A case has been registered against the police constable and three other persons.
Sumithi, the mother of the boy said, “they have hit and beaten him and put him on a railway track. When we asked him what happened, he said the police got a call saying they got the wrong person. So they investigated him to see if he has taken anything. They threatened him saying that if he goes out and tells anyone they will kill him."
Even though the police constable has been suspended, his mother has said that she is not satified with the action. “Is it enough to suspend a policeman? Shouldn’t they punish him? If it was a common man who had done this, they would have immediately punished him. But since he is a policeman they have taken no action. They have suspended him temporarily and he will come back to work later," she said.
