CHENNAI: An 18-month-old child went missing from Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Monday. The child’s father was asleep at the time of the incident.Victim R Priyadarshini’s father Rajesh Kannan woke up at 3am to feed his child. As the child was half asleep, she refused to drink the milk. Rajesh found the child, who was asleep next to him, missing after half-an-hour.Rajesh’s wife Selvi was admitted in the KMCH for her delivery two weeks ago and she delivered a girl baby on December 27. The baby was kept in an incubator and the mother was admitted in the ICU. Rajesh, a resident of Tiruverkadu, stayed at the hospital premises along with his child to assist his wife. “There were many others besides Rajesh inside the premises,” Kilpauk assistant commissioner of police S Rajaram said. Based on Rajesh’s complaint, Kilpauk police registered a case and are searching for the missing child. Special police teams have been formed to nab the child kidnapper. New Year Revelry Ends In MurderA celebration to usher in the New Year turned violent after a college student was murdered in Kanchipuram taluk police limits on Sunday. Police have detained the village panchayat president Arul for questioning in connection with the case.Santha Kumar of, Kanchipuram taluk, had picked up an argument with one Pandian, when the latter celebrated New Year by cutting a cake on Palikuda Street, Vippedu village. The college student argued that the celebration on the road hindered public.Both Santha Kumar’s gang and Pandian’s gang argued and left the place after residents sorted out the issue but the gangs had a fight later in the afternoon. On Sunday evening, Pandian’s gang went to Santha Kumar’s house beat him up. He fell unconscious and died while being taken to a hospital. Police are on the lookout for four persons.
