CIAL to become powerful
CIAL to become powerful

In an effort to diversify its activities in the power sector, the Cochin International Airport Ltd has floated a new subsidiary, CIAL Infrastructures Limited.

CIAL MD V J Kurian said that the company is keenly interested in the sector of renewable energy which includes solar, wind and hydel energy.

The attempt is to tap the alternative sources of energy to meet the energy demands of the airport. The CIAL has invited expression of interest from solar system technology holders to design, install and commission a solar photo voltaic power system for the terminal building of the airport. This will be a pilot project acting as a prelude to the main project to be taken up later.

On the successful completion of the pilot project, the main project envisages the installation of solar panels in the parking  and available roof-top areas. When fully commissioned, the company expects the project to generate around 8 MW of power which will deliver ‘green energy’ to meet the power needs.

The subsidiary company is also mandated to take up consultancy works for airports as well as other infrastructure projects.
