HYDERABAD: The Dabeer- pura flyover in the Old City is being strengthened by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation at a cost of Rs 2 crore, after a survey found structural weaknesses in the flyover. The civic body through M/s Stup Consultants carried a detailed survey about the general condition of over 35 flyovers, road over bridges and road under bridges in the city. It was found that the RoB at Khairatabad, flyovers at Masab Tank and Lalapet had small cracks, distortion of bearings and damage to expansion of joints, which had to be rectified immediately. Based on the report, the GHMC has decided to take up repairs for strengthening of the three structures.Other problems like condition of wearing coat joint, expansion joints, bearing pads, pedestals and hairline cracks on the main girders were also indicated in the report submitted by the firm. Taking the issue seriously, GHMC has given the task to Civil Aid, an agency to check for quality of work. For other structures, they found minor hairline cracks to the main girders, which can be rectified by taking up regular maintenance works.
