New Delhi: Davis Cup coach Nandan Bal is toiling hard to get the Indian tennis team up for the approaching Commonwealth Games.
The young players are toiling hard on the sidelines under the watchful eyes of the coach.
Tennis player V M Ranjith is upbeat about her prospects and happy to be a part of the probables.
"Firstly, it's a very big honour and a responsibility. If I am given this opportunity, I would love to grab it."
Lakhani is another tennis player who knows his position in the scheme of things.
"We get a littles rusty and this helps us get into shape. I think the preparations are good for us," Lakhani said.
With top players opting out of the camp it's not really India's best 40 playing here. Sure it gives an opportunity for the young bunch to practise and improve their skills against better players. But where does that leave the experienced lot?
"At this tme in time, it looks like Sania is going to play with Mahesh. I mean if they are playing all Grand Slams together then it is likely that they do so here too. But then again, then the question is what are our medal prospects?" Nandan Bal said.
The veteran player-coach has a suggestion that could solve some of the problems.
"This cannot be a one and a half year programme. So we are hoping that once the Commonwealth Games are open and are over with the AITA can take a decision an do this on a regular basis," Bal said.
