Congress had decided to boycott the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Session proceedings in Lucknow.

New Delhi: The Congress had decided to boycott the UP Assembly Session proceedings in Lucknow on Monday.

All Opposition parties had said that UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav efforts to take a test of strength on the floor of the state Assembly has no significance since the model code of conduct has already been announced by the Election Commission.

The BJP staged a protest against Mulayam on the floor of the Assembly and walked out during the proceedings.

“We'll perform the role of a responsible Opposition party and expose the UP government's unfair policies,” senior BJP leader, Lalji Tandon had said earlier.

The Congress and V P Singh's Jan Morcha had also said that they would be organising protests outside the Assembly against Mulayam's move to take a vote of confidence.

In what can be described as pressure tactics 78 MLAs, including 67 of the BSP MLAs resigned from the Assembly on Saturday.

The BSP's action has taken out the fizz to some extent of the proposed trust vote of the Samajwadi Party (SP) government.

The dramatic action was announced by party chief Mayawati who described the Samajwadi Party-led coalition government as unconstitutional in the wake of Supreme Court judgement disqualifying 13 breakaway BSP MLAs.
