Sonia Gandhi said that in principle they support the GST Bill, just few changes need to be made said, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu (L).

New Delhi: A day after the meeting of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress top leader Mallikarjun Kharge reached Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's residence on Saturday to discuss the future course of plan and decision on GST Bill.

Sources said that a consensus was reached on two out of three demands made by Congress on Friday's meeting.

"The centre might agree to the 18% limit on GST and waive off the 1% levy for manufacturing states. But it is unlikely for the central government to accept Congress' demand to change the composition and state quota in the GST council," he said.

Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the government is optimistic over the passage of GST Bill after UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi 'principally' agreed to it 'if few changes were made'.

"Sonia ji said that in principle they support the GST Bill, just few changes need to be made. I am optimistic," Naidu said.

Elaborating more on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with the senior Congress leaders on GST, he said, "There was free exchange of views because GST was initially brought by the UPA government. After Union Finance Minister discussed the points she (Sonia) said she would come back after discussing with party members".
