Cop and his friend held for attempting rape

HYDERABAD: A 26-year old police constable and his friend were arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a housewife in Shameerpet on the city outskirts.According to police, a police constable attached to Shameerpet police station along with his friend tried to rape a 35-year-old housewife in the presence of her husband at their home. Around 11.30 p.m on Tuesday night, Harikrishna, a police constable and his friend Raju, a realtor, in an inebriated condition came to Srilakshmi’s house at Indranagar Colony in Shameerpet.“While Harikrishna was sitting in the car, Raju rushed to Srilakshmi’s home and knocked on the door. As she opened the door, Raju tried to rape her while her husband Siva Reddy asleep inside,” said Narender Reddy, inspector of Shameerpet police station. Police said Harikrishna who was observing everything from the car, came out and threatened to kill her.When the duo tried to pull her away, her husband, who asleep in the house, came out and started a heated exchange with the duo. When the two tried to attack him, the couple started shouting, which scared the duo away.Reddy said the incident came to light only on Wednesday morning when the victim approached police.She alleged that the duo had tried to rape her in presence of her husband. She also alleged that the police constable and his friend Raju were heavily drunk when they came to her house. Police said Harikrishna attended his duties and after finishing them, he met his friend Raju in a bar and they consumed liquor. Later, they went to Sri Lakshmi’s residence in Raju’s car. Harikrishna has been working as a constable since four years.Based on the complaint lodged by Sri Lakshmi, the Shameerpet police have registered a case on Harikrishna and Raju.
