KOZHIKODE: In a major breakthrough in the investigation of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan’s murder, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested five persons on Tuesday. Those arrested include Parayankandi Raveendran, a member of CPM Orkattery local committee. Raveendran, according to the police, has assisted the seven-member quotation gang to identify Chandrasekharan. Raveendran, also an accused in an attack on RMP leaders last month, was released on bail recently. The others arrested are Deepu alias Bibin, Lambu Pradeep, Kuttan alias Ramesh and Kuttan alias Rajith - all of them hailing from Panur in Kannur. They have been held on the charges of supplying lethal weapons and providing assistance to execute the murder, said the police. The three allegedly supplied the lethal weapons used in the murder and concealed them after the operation. All of them were picked up from their residences in the raids carried out by SIT. However, there are unconfirmed reports that the police have arrested one more person who handed over the money to the quotation gang headed by Kodi Suni and Rafeek. Sources maintained that the arrested person has high political links and his name will be revealed only after further investigation. Police also took into custody five others including those who provided all assistance including a bike to Kodi Suni. But police refused to confirm this. ADGP (Crime) Winson M Paul who is leading the investigation convened a high level meeting of the SIT at Vadakara to review the investigation.
