KOLLAM: Labour Minister Shibu Baby John has called on police officers in the city to ignore political affiliations while dealing with quotation gangs and thus serve the society better. Inaugurating the district conference of Kerala Police Officers Association at the Town UPS here on Sunday, the minister cautioned that if people lose faith in police, it will lead to a state of chaos. “The criminal activities are on the rise and quotation gangs and sand mafia play a major role in spoiling youths. They offer perks to teenagers to commit criminal offences and turn them into anti-social elements. The trend is that even children from affluent families are being drawn to criminal activities,’’ he said. Taking a dig at the police-quotation gang nexus operating in the city, the minister said that a section of police officers promote such activities to promote their vested interests. They should realise that are committing a grave offence against the future generation. Kerala Police Officers Association district president A Pradeep presided over the function.
