THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  An ad-hoc committee was formed on Wednesday to submit recommendations for streamlining the functioning of the Sree Chitra Home for Poor and Destitute (SCH), Pazhavangadi. The decision to form the committee was taken at a meeting convened by Social Welfare Minister M K Muneer here on Wednesday. SCH had been in the news recently with the administration discontinuing free tuitions at SCH after the young inmates experimented with an Ouija Board during class hours. The ad-hoc committee, which consists of the Social Welfare Director and the secretary, Transport Minister V S Sivakumar, Shashi Tharoor MP, ADM, the ward councillor and two other officials from the Social Welfare Department, will submit its report within a week, Muneer said in a statement.Wednesday’s meeting also decided to stop the free tuitions conducted at the SCH. The administration had sacked the teacher on August 15 charging him with spreading superstitions among the children. However, the students had given a written clarification saying that they had forced the teacher to participate. Following this, the SCH superintendent had discontinued the free tuitions. Muneer visited SCH last week following complaints regarding its functioning. Both the SCH superintendent and the sacked teachers had also filed separate complaints to the District Collector. Social Welfare Secretary Sharada Muraleedharan, Additional Secretary Elizabeth Koshy, ward councillor P Rajendran Nair, Kerala Social Security Mission regional director Major Dinesh and programme coordinator Sreeranjini were present at Wednesday’s meeting.
