Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's 'Karara Jawab' Quip Amid Border Row With China
"We have to be ready for war at all times, even in peacetime," Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday highlighted India’s preparedness for war amid multiple challenges along the country’s border. “We have never occupied anyone’s land but, if anyone attacks us, we are in a position to give a befitting reply,” the Union Minister stated.

Speaking at NDTV’s maiden Defence Summit, Rajnath Singh said, “We have to be ready for war at all times… even in peacetime. We have to be ready. Whether from land, air, or sea… if anyone attacks India our forces will respond strongly. We have never occupied anyone’s land but, if anyone attacks us, we are in position to give a befitting reply.”

Singh’s remarks come amid continued tension with China in Kashmir and Ladakh, as well as the northeast.

On February 26, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar, speaking at a media summit organised by the TV9 Network, described the rise of India and China as ”significant” in the global geopolitical scenario.

According to a PTI report, Jaishankar said India tried to maintain an “equilibrium” in the ties through diplomacy, but the relations took a different turn following China’s military build-up along the Line of Actual Control in 2020 in violation of laid down norms.

“If you were to list three or four really big things which have changed in the last 20-25 years, I think most people would agree it would be the rise of China and the rise of India,” he said in response to a question.

“You can say China started it much earlier because our own politics here delayed the era of reform. That’s okay. What’s done is done. But there is no question, both countries are rising and for world politics, this poses a very interesting problem,” Jaishankar added.

”The problem is this: both are changing the world order by their rise. So each one has an impact vis-a-vis the world. But they also happened to be neighbours. So their relationship is also changing while it is changing vis-a-vis the rest of the world,” the EAM further said.
