New Delhi: It is a triangular fight in Wazirpur constituency in Delhi Assembly elections between Bharatiya Janata Party, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress. The seat is presently held by BJP's Mahendra Nagpal.
AAP has fielded a new candidate Rajesh Gupta, who is from US, and the Congress is banking on Hari Shankar Gupta's clean image and development work. Praveen Kumar, AAP candidate from the seat in 2013, is now with the BJP.
With 1.67 lakh voters, the constituency has Marwaris (16 per cent), Punjabis (7.5 per cent), Brahmins (7 per cent), Muslims (3,000 voters) and others are from Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The constituency is divided into Nimri, Sawan Park, Wazirpur and Ashok Vihar wards.
"A tough fight will be witnessed between BJP and Congress. The AAP candidate is not a known face and it is a disadvantage for the party. Congress candidate has a good image here," says Robin Sharma.
"It will be a triangular contest and voting is done on the basis of party and not on candidate. The BJP has taken no new steps except taking credit for Congress's work. PM Modi did only one thing on October 2, 2014, he took away Gandhi from Congress and 'jhaadu' (broom) from AAP as he launched his 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan'," says Sukhbir Singh.
Residents are even ready to forgive AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and give him one more chance.
"We have hope only from Arvind Kejriwal. In 49 days, he worked for people and corruption came down. There should not be same government at the state and Centre. A new face should come now," says Aadesh, a shop-keeper in JJ cluster.
