New Delhi: A plea has been filed in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday seeking Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) past and current foreign funding by an independent petitioner.
The hearing of the petition is to be held on February 18 after the Delhi Assembly elections. This is a fight of perceptions and the AAP can be seriously savaged by the BJP and Congress.
Another Public-Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed after the AAP Volunteer Action Manch (AVAM), alleged a massive scam in the funding of the party. The AVAM claimed that there were four bogus companies that had made donations amounting to Rs 50 lakhs each. It also claimed that the cheque payments received by the party were fraudulent.
"All money that comes from cheques is not necessarily clean. We wanted to show the modus operandi of AAP that cash is given to such companies and in return cheques are issued. The business of these companies is to turn black into white," AVAM member Karan Singh had said at a press conference.
Battling allegations of having ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party, the AVAM also claimed that they were still a part of the AAP. "I am not a member of BJP but on social media I did say that I am a BJP member because I wanted to irritate the AAP," AVAM member Neil said.
They also said that the timing of the revelations was not planned according to its proximity to the Delhi polls. "We got the evidence on January 23. But we decided to go public after Aashish Khaitan insulted Karan Singh on a TV show," Neil stated.
Aam Aadmi Party faces trouble as serious allegations of financial impropriety have been levied against it.
