CHENNAI: A 39-year-old child heart specialist at Mogappair was arrested on Wednesday for cheating a woman doctor after promising to marry her.Police sources said the accused Dr Yogesh was a native of Maharashtra and worked as a child heart specialist in a private hospital in Mogappair. Married two years ago, he had separated from his wife and divorce proceedings were underway. Meanwhile, he became close to an anaesthetist, 29-year-old Dr Ramya (name changed), a Keralite, working in his hospital. After Yogesh reportedly promised to marry her, the two became intimate and Ramya became pregnant. She later terminated her pregnancy on Yogesh’s insistence. Later, Yogesh backtracked on his promise and refused to marry her, the sources said. Ramya lodged a complaint at the Thirumangalam All Women Police Station, alleging that Yogesh had raped her. The police registered a case against Yogesh and arrested him.Realtor Robbed of `24 LakhThe police are investigating a complaint lodged by a real estate broker who alleged that `24 lakh received from a buyer and kept in his two-wheeler was stolen near the sub-registrar’s office in Avadi on Wednesday.Sources said Muthusamy of Selvaraj Nagar in Avadi, a real estate broker, was carrying the cash which the buyer of the land, Ganesan of Chintadripet, had given him for handing over to the owner Kumarasamy, a resident of Bhajanai Koil Street in Tirunindravur, after the deal was finalised. After completing the formalities at the sub-registrar’s office, the broker came to his two-wheeler to retrieve the cash, when he found the lock broken and the money stolen. He lodged a complaint with the Avadi police.Chain Snatched from Sleeping WomenTwo cases of chain-snatching by bike riders wearing helmets were reported at Nungambakkam early on Wednesday.In the first incident, the victim, S Subhashini (25) of Vaikundapuram, was asleep on a cot in front of her house due to power failure, when two men on a bike snatched her three-sovereign gold chain and escaped. Robbers on bikes also struck at nearby Second Street in Kamarajapuram, snatching a four-sovereign gold chain from S Pushpavanam (30), who was asleep with her house’s front door open due to power failure.Burglars also struck at the house of software engineer Senthil Kumar in NGO Colony in Adambakkam. On Tuesday, Senthil Kumar and his sister left for work and on returning home found that three sovereigns gold jewellery and a laptop had been stolen.Four Killed in Three Road AccidentsA bike rider and his pillion and two others were killed in three separate road accidents in the suburbs during the past 24 hours.Kumar (28) and Rajendran (29) of Chathiram Agaram were going on a two-wheeler on Mount-Poonamallee Road to Avadi on Wednesday, when they were knocked down by a State Express Transport Corporation bus. Both were killed on the spot. Poonamallee Traffic Investigation Police are probing the incident.In another fatal mishap, Rajesh (24), a resident of Arcot Salai, was crossing the road in Ayyapanthangal when he was run over by a bus going towards Mogaliwakkam. At Tirunindravur, grocery store owner Rajamani (48) was killed on the spot when the omni-van in which he was travelling collided with an MTC bus on Periyapalayam Road. His relative Uthirakumar (48), who was accompanying him, sustained grievous injuries and was admitted to GGH. Avadi Traffic Investigation Police have registered a case.
