CHENNAI: A domiciliary annual survey on hypertension and frequent urine tests are ways to prevent renal failure, said Dr M K Mani, chief nephrologist, Apollo Hospitals.Speaking at the CME programme organised by the Indian Medical Association, College of General Practitioners Hqrs, in association with Apollo Hospitals Chennai on Sunday Dr M K Mani said, “Only one per cent of people who suffer from rental failure have a chance to do dialysis and kidney transplant. The rest of them die quietly as the treatment is expensive and not many can afford it.”He also added, “In India given our statistics on lifestyle diseases like hypertension and diabetes, if not controlled, predisposes people to rental failure. It is important that government take up the initiative of conducting a domiciliary (door step) annual survey of people on hypertension and urine test by trained personnel. Those suffering from these conditions should be followed up with. These steps which will go a long way in the prevention of rental failures.”This CME was conducted to help the general practitioners in early detection and prevention of renal failure. Around 80 GPs participated in the programme. Among others who spoke on the occasion were Dr Balaji Srinivasan, Dr P Prabhu, Dr M R Grinath and Dr N Ramakrishnan.
