HYDERABAD: GHMC commissioner Sameer Sarma said that the ongoing desilting of drains and removal of debris from them would be completed within a week.“With the monsoon arriving next month, we wanted to clear the drains and ensure unhindered flow of rain water through them,” he said.Addressing a coordination meeting on monsoon preparedness by various departments in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, the commissioner said that every department concerned with disaster management should be ready to meet any eventuality during the coming monsoon period.He asked the departments to obtain information about rainfall prediction from the Meteorological department and give instructions to the officials concerned to take action. He also asked the superintendent engineer for irrigation to monitor the water level in Hussainsagar, Gurram cheruvu etc.If natural disasters like heavy rains and floods strike Hyderabad, the GHMC will utilise the services of CISF to deal with any related mishaps like house collapses.Additional commissioner of police (Traffic) CV Anand said their department has identified 132 water logging points. He advised that some manholes need to be raised to the road level and some roads need to be relaid. The GHMC Commissioner agreed and instructed the zonal commissioners to complete the relaying of roads identified by the traffic department by the end of the month.
