Ephedrine worth Rs. 50 lakh seized

CHENNAI: Customs officials arrested a Kuala Lumpur-bound passenger and seized two kg of ephedrine worth Rs.50 lakh at the airport here early on Tuesday.Acting on a tip-off from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, customs officials intercepted Dawood Batcha (52) of Ilayankudi in Sivaganga district, when he arrived at the airport to board a Chennai-Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Airways flight 181, scheduled for departure at 12.30 am. On conducting a search of his hand baggage, the authorities found a carton filled with two kg of ephedrine tablets worth Rs. 50 lakh in international market.
