Ex-Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan is among the 14 people chargesheeted by the CBI in the multi-crore Adarsh Housing scam.

New Delhi: After three former CMs, two former Army Chiefs General Deepak Kapoor and General NC Vij will appear before the judicial commission probing the Adarsh Housing society scam on Wednesday.

Both could be questioned on why no alarm was raised regarding the security threat to military establishments from Adarsh.

They had got membership in the controversial housing society when Vilasrao Deshmukh was Chief Minister of Maharashtra. But they gave up the flats after the controversy emerged.

The panel, which has examined three former Maharashtra chief ministers, is currently probing whether bureaucrats had flouted rules while granting permission for the housing project.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan is among the 14 people chargesheeted by the CBI on July 4 in the multi-crore Adarsh Housing scam.

Former Maharashtra Chief Ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushil Kumar Shinde have not been named in the chargesheet.

The 10,000-page CBI chargesheet was filed before the Registrar of a session’s court; nearly 18 months after the agency registered a case.

The agency had in March arrested nine out of the 14 accused after receiving a rap on its knuckles from the High Court for not initiating action against the accused persons.
