Express train derails at Athipattu

CHENNAI: A day after a goods wagon derailed at Korrukupet killing a pointsman, an Ernakulam bound Raptisagar Express, headed towards Chennai Central Railway Station, derailed in the early hours of Thursday.
Sources said, the guard van and an unreserved coach derailed around 1.00 am as the train was approaching Athipattu Pudhu Nagar station near Ponneri. None were injured in the mishap.Railway personnel rushed to the spot. The derailment affected the running of other trains proceeding to Chennai. EMU services on the ChennaiGummidipoondi section, that were also affected, returned to normal by 10.30 am. S Anantharaman, divisional railway manager, Chennai, Southern Railway, said that a probe had been ordered into the incident.
