CHENNAI: With Bakrid fast approaching (November 7), clothes-buying is at a high among Muslims in the city. Having waited for the Deepavali rush to subside, these shoppers had hoped to complete their shopping this week for the festive occasion. With no choice but to brave the rains, and the closure of several shops along the city's commercial capital, several Burqa-clad women on Wednesday morning came shopping in groups to T Nagar.Kareema, whose search for a dream dress for her daughter for Bakrid usually ends at Chennai Silks every year, had to be content with shopping at the ramshackle shops on Ranganathan Street this year. “We are looking for a saree and a salwar kameez to wear on the festival, and as our usual shops — Jayachandran Textiles and Chennai Silk — have shut down. We thought we would try other stores and found our clothes here,” Kareema said, pointing to a nondescript cloth-store in the street.
